Open Doors Academy is an out-of-school enrichment program seeking to advance educational equity by protecting, inspiring, nurturing, and challenging their scholars.

Each summer, Little Jacket spends a week with a group of ODA scholars to collaborate on the organization’s annual report. Since the beginning, ODA’s messaging has centered around one key insight: The kids tell the story best. For the 2024–2025 report, we put scholars’ voices front and center to highlight who they are today—not just what they aspire to be in the future.

Finishing details—rounded corners, metal wire binding, and a heavy cover stock—give the report reminiscent of school notebooks or journals, a nod to the candor you’ll find inside. The handdrawn, vintage-inspired sans serif used for display type matches the humanity of our scholars’ voices and lends their words a real confidence and legitimacy when set in all caps. Scholars’ real handwriting is used in headlines and pull quotes, adding an organic contrast to the sans serif type, underscoring their authorship, and emphasizing at a glance the range of ages ODA serves. Page layouts range from bold and dynamic to quiet and reflective, flexing to match the tone of the report’s content.

“I Can’t Wait For” reflects scholars’ real, innate excitement for things big and small. It creates a sense of optimism for these kids’ futures as well as the future of ODA, and underscores the urgency of the support needed to keep these futures bright.
